Root to Rise author, Emily Pattullo, will be joining an illustrious panel of New Zealand mystery writers for this event coming up in May.

The Ngaio Marsh Awards, in association with Warkworth Library and Auckland Libraries, invites booklovers to a criminally good evening in 'Brokenwood', featuring four talented local storytellers.

As crime and thriller writing has evolved from puzzle-like mysteries to modern novels delving deeply into people and place, and the impact of crime along with investigation, it has continued to intrigue readers around the world. What makes it so captivating?

Swedish-born bestselling author Madeleine Eskedahl sets her popular mysteries in the Matakana wine region. She will be joined in conversation by past Ngaio Marsh Awards finalist and Omaha Beach author Mark Wightman, award-winning British author Emily Pattullo, and award-winning screenwriter and playwright Kathryn Burnett (My Life is Murder, The Brokenwood Mysteries).

Our panel will discuss what draws them to tales of intrigue and thrills, how they create memorable characters, and the impact of our local settings and universal themes on their writing.

WHEN: Thursday, 2 May 2024
WHERE: Old Masonic Hall, 3 Baxter Street, Warkworth
WHEN: 5.30pm doors open for light refreshments, 6.30pm panel
